Discover retro chic finds at the Brooklyn Flea

Fabric fascination
Get inspired by the makeover projects on hand at the market and then pick up some fun vintage fabric to renovate your own items at home. It's amazing what you can do with a yard of retro cotton or barkcloth!

Colour trends everywhere
They say fashion trends start on the street—so, too, do decor trends. At Brooklyn Flea, shabby chic pastels are 'out' and saturated colours are 'in.' A canary yellow dresser from AMA Home was snapped up in one morning. Entrepreneurs Amy Williams and Karen Willard have an eye for refinishing these pieces from the '60s and '70s.

Save room for dessert
As it develops, the market is becoming a haven for all things edible. Brooklyn foodies are flocking to the one-stop shopping venue to pick up some of their favourite treats. Among many other food vendors, Blue Marble Ice Cream sells farm-fresh organic ice cream, Brown Bag Industries markets its delicious Whoopie Pies and Nunu Chocolates serves up homemade chocolate caramels. It was definitely worth the wait in line for a cup of organic coffee and a mouthwatering treat—or two!

The piece you’ve been searching for
You can almost guarantee that no matter what your Holy Grail of flea marketing is, with almost 150 vendors, there’s more than a good chance you'll find it at the Brooklyn Flea.

Editor's picks

Can't make it to Brooklyn? Some of our favourite vendors have their own websites:

Ama Home
Owners Amy and Karen use colourful contemporary fabrics to update funky
painted furniture. For AMA Home, bold is better.

Olde Good Things
Serious about architectural salvage, this is a one-stop shop for interesting fragments to add character to your home, as well as a product line made from recycled finds.

Hairy Mary's Vintage & Design
Vintage and reconstructed fashion, including handbags, dating from the Victorian era to the 1980s.

Deadly Squire
Funky artisan products, from oven mitts to babies' bibs. Artist Anna Harrington designs the original and elegant fabric patterns.

Brooklyn Flea
...of course you need the details for the market! Located on the grounds of Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, the market takes place every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.—rain or shine.
