Although Quebec is the largest producer of maple syrup in Canada, we tapped into these five syrups from farms across the country for a sweet treat.
For every day
Horton Tree Farms in Stouffville, Ontario, offers up a variety of maple syrups, but our favourite is the Amber Syrup; it’s a perfect complement to a hearty breakfast of eggs, bacon and, of course, pancakes.
For baking
Certified by ECOCERT, Canadian Heritage Organics’ 100-percent pure maple syrup, straight from Quebec maple sugar trees in the Appalachian Region, is ideal for flavouring your next fruit crumble or banana bread. Available at Béland Organic Foods.
For delicate palates
President’s Choice 100-percent organic and pure maple syrup is perfect for light breakfast fare such as pancakes, waffles or French toast, offering a mild maple flavour that doesn’t overpower your dish.
For family affairs
Light in flavour and colour, Canadian Pure Maple Syrup from family owned and run Voisin’s Maple Products is a crowd pleaser. The Voisins have been tapping their Formosa, Ontario trees since the 1920s.
For the adventurer
For a stonger taste that’s less sweet, try Boreal Birch Syrup with your next batch of buckwheat pancakes (use sparingly!). The smoky, caramelized flavour pairs well with salmon, carrots or vanilla ice cream.
