Turn antique intimates into modern accessories

Whether you inherited a few treasured pieces from your mother or fell in love with a 1950s baby doll at your favourite second-hand shop, there's something about silky vintage lingerie that makes women feel sassy, chic and glamorous from the inside out. Delicate slips, corsets, nightgowns and other vintage underthings from the 1920s through to the '60s have a feminine elegance, a sort of mystery and a hint of Old Hollywood that continues to captivate women of all generations. If you have a few pieces in your collection that you love but that don't quite fit, bring their feminine charm out of the drawers to work in inventive ways with these simple ideas for the boudoir.

What to look for
Lingerie sizing isn't universal, varying with brand, country and year. Check labels (Radcliffe, Yolande and Artemis are out of production and therefore great finds) but always ask sellers for measurements in order to ensure correct sizing.

Make a lingerie travel bag (pictured)
Let your intimates travel in style by transforming a forgotten slip or nightgown into a luxurious lingerie bag to slip into your travel bag or simply store in a drawer at home. Give your bag two compartments to separate clean from to-be-laundered items and add a pretty ribbon to tie it all together.
