1. Glowing embers (shown above)
Coneflower, or echinacea pods, display a raw beauty after losing their petal finery. Set among cool green crocosmia, they "show you need just a little bit of colour to add warmth to your environment," says Amber. An antique copper pitcher's worn glow adds a gentle radiance to the simple bouquet. Seasonal fruit, such as pears, pomegranates and red apples, piled high in a vintage wooden frame box, make a clever companion to fall flowers.
2. Beautiful bounty
flowers Winter, acorn and pepper squash are surrounded by a cornucopia of autumn bounty. Miniature kale plants resemble giant roses with purple hearts glowing from their leafy exterior, while blue viburnum and green ligustrum berries spill over the edge. Sedum creates pockets of red, and fresh or dried pink and green hydrangeas add softness. "Create your own harvest still-life by raiding your kitchen for potatoes, cabbage, nuts and fruit," says Amber. "Add a few dried summer flowers and you're there."
3. Fired earth
Potted burnt orange chrysanthemums are a cluster of tiny sunsets, the season's last burst of colour before surrendering to winter's night. Readily available at this time of year, Amber suggests picking some up at your local nursery or even at your grocery store. To create some harvest interest, surround flowers with handfuls of moss and top with a layer of whole chestnuts and walnuts.
4. Blush of youth
Crimson foliage and red hypericum berries cheerily mingle in this vibrant bouquet, reminiscent of a child's rosy cheeks after an afternoon playing in the leaves. Use whatever you find in your yard or on a walk, suggests Amber, and pile it all in a vintage pail to embellish the bouquet's casual country charm.
