Silver belle
You'll need:
Silver floral spray paint (available at craft stores and florists; it comes in a variety of colours, so have fun and try different tones!)
Magnolia leaves
Juniper sprigs
Eucalyptus pods
Cedar rope (about 1 ½ times as long as your banister)
Floral wire
Silver ornaments, both large and small
How to:
Spray paint magnolia leaves in a well-ventilated area (free from a draft or breeze). Let leaves dry completely. Fasten juniper sprigs, eucalyptus pods and silvered magnolia leaves to the cedar rope with floral wire. Attach cedar rope to banister with floral wire, creating swags as you go. At the newel post, fix remainder of cedar rope with floral wire. Using more wire, attach a selection of silver ornaments to the rope, varying the sizes and shapes. Cover any bare spots with leftover greenery or more ornaments.
Helpful hints
- Cedar has a wonderful fragrance, stays fresh for up to 10 days, and once dry won’t shed its needles as much as pine or spruce.
- If the staircase gets a lot of traffic and children are likely to play with the decorations, use ornaments made of heavier glass or plastic.
