Add unconventional holiday flair to your home with a pink colour scheme

pink-holiday-accents.jpgWhimsical colours and teacup accents steep a traditional home in unconventional holiday flair. Beyond the broad strokes of the evergreen tree and stack of gifts, it’s the little touches that make each holiday unique in our memories. At this house, part of an annual tour in Whitby, Ontario, interior designer Brenda Britton of Rousseau’s Furniture used a charming sense of whimsy to capitalize on existing elements. “There’s an exciting use of colour in the home, and the accessories were meant to enhance it,” Britton says. Taking her colour cues from the rooms’ elements — bright pinks in the floral patterned couch, lively green on the kitchen walls — Britton added ornaments with a tea theme to introduce a novel accent that visitors will remember with delight. It is a space filled with a new life for the holidays — in essence, tradition with a twist.

❄ Pretty pinks and greens abound in the rooms, with touches of evergreen and Britton’s choice of a delicate china pattern essential to the look. “I wanted the Christmas decorations to complement the existing decor, rather than to fight it,” she says.
❄ Purple ornaments and a selection of paperwhites below a fanciful butterfly pendant lamp enhance the living room. Rolls of fabric and paper for wrapping stand at the ready.
❄ Britton, who invested in dozens of demitasse cups and saucers at High Point Furniture Market in North Carolina, developed a tea theme for the home to take advantage of its softly traditional nature. From gifted cups and saucers to Christmas tea bags and spoons hung from the tree, her inspired ideas give the house a merry, unique appeal.
❄ Britton’s fresh holiday colour scheme was primarily born out of the whimsical fabric patterns in the house, where large floral patterns mix with quieter, subdued prints and stripes.

All furniture, Rousseau’s.

Hello, Those pink decorations are very pretty. I love pink and the combination of green and pink, I have two chairs covered in pink velvet. But I was wondering if I should not change their coverings as everything now is brown, beige, blue, black, grey and purple. But I guess I am going to keep them as they are, your article made me change my mind! Thanks!
