Aside from painting, Vachon's touches were few but strategic. A bold checkerboard painted floor – a trademark of Vachon's, and a wonderful, inexpensive way to add character and colour to a room – a new Carrara marble counter, apron-front sink and faucet in the kitchen; new tiles in the guest bath, and classic draperies on key windows. The dining room drapery is particularly noteworthy – a simple ruffle gives the treatment panache, without detracting from the glorious view.
In the dining room, too, the Christmas decor takes on a more festive but still understated note, reflecting Joubert's holiday lifestyle. “I receive friends for the New Year, but I'm a doctor, so I often work,” she says. A miniature tinsel tree with pink baubles, soft lilac candles in a shimmering silver candelabra and a table set with roses and pink ranunculuses acknowledge the season with a simple sophistication. In the living room, Christmas presents – beautifully wrapped in the colour theme – are the only seasonal adornment necessary. The packages, embellished with silk flowers and satiny ribbon, are at once colourful, elegant and fresh. A pitch-perfect echo of the home's decor, and all that's need to create a Joyeux Noël chez Joubert.
