Three favourite rooms – dining room, bedroom and living room – get our French country treatment

zfrenc55992.jpgPairing different tones of wood together, a serene bedroom gets an injection of French Country style.

[1] A collection of small oil paintings with differently styled wooden frames are hung in a random fashion on the wall. What ties the look together is the similar size of the artwork.

[2] Antiques or collectibles in quirky places – in this case, a birdcage on the bedside table – add a note of playfulness to a sophisticated room. Water glass, wire tray, Elte Carpets & Home; flowers on table, Surroundings.

[3] The French love of soft furnishings comes into play here with a pale blue matelasse coverlet that picks up the blue in the artwork and sets off crisp white linens. Linens, coverlet, Elte Carpets & Home.

[4] In a French Country boudoir, a bed should be as comfortable as possible. Here, form and function marry in a carved antique bed that is as much art as it is furniture.

[5] The seemingly incongruous addition of a red and green Aubussson carpet nevertheless works in this otherwise neutral room.
