Three favourite rooms – dining room, bedroom and living room – get our French country treatment

Designer Sarah Richardson uses a fabulous red and white toile as her inspiration for a French Country dining room.

[1] An essential French Country icon, this antique armoire with chicken wire and carved wood detailing sets the stage for the dining room. Faience dishes, French Country.

[2] A French chandelier adds instant, effortless elegance to any room.

[3] Instead of wallpaper, Richardson applied toile fabric to the walls for a decidedly European feel. Country Life fabric on walls, Waverly.

[4] Mixing old with new, antique side chairs that were originally painted grey are revamped with a warm, aged-looking finish, recaned and reupholstered. Armchairs with coordinating red and white gingham break up the space. Exeter fabric on armchairs, Robert Allen.

[5] An inexpensive folding table goes luxe with a floor-length toile slipcover. Glass vase, Horsefeathers!; napkins, glasses, flatware, faience dishes, all French Country.
