Pictured above: Having fun with texture is one of the great things about decorating with white pieces. From soft to hard, woven to painted, the surface of a white object changes dramatically depending on its texture. Don't be afraid to play with a myriad of different effects until you get one you like. Another great thing about decorating with white is that all shades, depths and patinas will work together to create a pleasing visual tension. (Silk flowers and vases: Thrill of the hunt)
Every white takes on a different cast, depending on its texture and the surrounding light. It's part of what makes this shade eternally intriguing—even when we think we've seen it all, a new depth or richness suddenly emerges. What attracted us to many of these pieces was their textural worn veneer. The flaking paint, distressed wood and patches of rust are readily visible, giving the items a 'perfect imperfection.' A little rust is okay, it even adds a resonant quality, but make sure all your finds are structurally sound.
Pictured at left: Fancy silhouettes come with added drama when they're rendered in white. The pure simplicity of the colour allows light and shadows to be reflected, so dynamic twists and turns appear in force, while white's fluid nature creates movement.
