The patina of age and the elements brings a depth to white-painted pieces that's both evocative and ethereal.
Every white takes on a different cast, depending on its texture and the surrounding light. It's part of what makes this shade eternally intriguing—even when we think we've seen it all, a new depth or richness suddenly emerges. What attracted us to many of these pieces was their textural worn veneer. The flaking paint, distressed wood and patches of rust are readily visible, giving the items a ‘perfect imperfection.' A little rust is okay, it even adds a resonant quality, but make sure all your finds are structurally sound.
Pictured: Worn wood and white are a potent mix to the flea market salvage aficionado. Architectural pieces, especially, often come with artfully peeling white paint, laying bare a weathered wood grain underneath.
