Cocoa is one of our favourite pantry must-haves. Its history is immortalized in fun vintage tins like these that evoke a warm sense of nostalgia every time you reach for them.
Prices range from a few dollars to a few hundred, so budget accordingly - sometimes the best finds are discovered tucked away in your grandma's pantry!
Cocoa Tins 101:
• It was almost 200 years ago (in 1828) that Dutch chocolate maker Conrad van Houten produced the first instant cocoa powder available in tins.
• Look for enamelware cocoa tins from sets of kitchen canisters-particularly rare.
• European cocoa tins often depict sweet domestic scenes, raising their collectible appeal.
• Watch for pretty decorative tins at specialty chocolate stores in your area to start a modern collection.
• Most of today's collectible tins are for decoration only. The insides are rarely in good enough condition to use with food.
