Dust off those special greetings you've saved from years past and display them in your home
If you were the kind of kid who loved to do cut and paste, then you're probably the kind of adult who loves to gather old Christmas cards. As fun collectibles, they're cheap, prolific and infinitely variable in scene and sophistication. As mementoes, they're an enduring, endearing trail of family connections from year to year. And as crafty inspiration, they are a limitless source of raw potential. Try reincarnating these old favourites into holiday decorations, savouring the history of people close to you by showing them off every Christmas. With every card you write this year, keep in mind that with luck, you'll be seeing it again in years to come.
What to look for Embossing increases the value of a mint condition card, as does an unusual shape. Serious collectors pass on the kitsch—it's timeless seasonal settings and Nativity scenes that command the high prices.
Idea 1 (as shown above)Create place cards by gluing images from past years' greetings onto card stock. Add interest by including a festive decorative trim.
Idea 2 (left)Take cards with a similar theme and attach to a ribbon in a tailored line for an impromptu art gallery. Tack the 'garland' to banisters, lintels and mantels.
