Decorating
The rich colour of the floorboards contrasted nicely with the newly painted wainscotting and trim. The creamy hue lightened the space immeasurably, allowing the detail of the original casements to shine through. Changing the colour of the walls from their previous harsh orange to a spa-like pale blue brought both light and life into the room. Green tones accented the relaxation-inspired palette, with pale green in a high-gloss finish adding a touch of sleekness to the existing wall cabinet. A simple Roman blind adds texture and colour – not to mention privacy! Small details, from inexpensive greeting cards in lieu of larger art to an innovative use of a garden windowbox as a towel holder, all brought in elements of country charm, and completed the transformation from a simple washroom to a restful country retreat.
Our makeunder essentials
• A Kathryn pedestal sink and a Fairfax single lever faucet, both from Kohler, were our first improvements.
• Kohler's Bancroft Comfort Height toilet was next, providing a modern counterpoint to the sink and tub.
• A new Marvin window replaced the original window, which had been painted shut.
• A Robert Allen Beacon Hill fabric Roman blind adds texture.
• Pale Powder coats the walls, while White Tie gives new life to trim and wainscotting. Cooking Apple green adds depth to the cabinet, and Green Ground frames a salvaged mirror. All paints, Farrow & Ball.
• TORLYS Hardwood Summit Oak Chestnut plank floor is the finishing touch.

Outdated colours, knickknack clutter and an increasing desire for a much-needed change? These are the obvious symptoms of an impending makeunder, and if you've been there, we want to see it!
