Scandinavian style is almost inherently modern, so Nicola relied heavily on mass-produced pieces from stores such as Ikea. "The minute you replace an antique hutch with a long, low modern buffet, you're nearly there," she says. Nicola replaced fussy chandeliers with streamlined pendant lamps. "Don't spend a fortune," she advises. "We retrofitted lampshades we already had."
