Clean, bright and airy are all words that are synonymous with how a country bathroom should feel. For Ted, creating the atmosphere was easy in this spacious guest bathroom, simply by taking advantage of its natural attributes.
Lots of light from the big window (an unusual feature in a bathroom, but what a difference it makes!) meant that the pale wall colour would glow, and, coupled with touches of Cottage Style whimsy in artwork, rag rug and loads of fluffy white towels, the room feels equally modern in appeal.
It would be easy for a room like this to go overboard, but Ted understands that the mood of a room is as important as paint colour and placement.
In response, he’s kept decorations to a minimum, eschewing the lacy white curtains and trim on towels that would be just a bit too Victorian in favour of clean-lined, simple, tailored elements that keep stuffiness at bay.
This bathroom was made to soothe the senses, and make each day’s wake-up call a happy one. Spare, bright features provide a cool element of calm that’s only accentuated by the comforting vintage reminders of a time gone by. Ted wanted to establish the feel of the room simply with the architectural framework of a large unadorned window, V-groove walls, a deep tub and plank flooring. It’s a plan that keeps the space from looking too frilly, which would detract from the overall ambience of the house.
