it didn’t take long for Mary-Anne Swire, Brenda Innes, Carol Panczyk and Nancy Evans—the owners of Maison Beaufort, this charming rental property in France—to see that the European idea of a bathroom didn't quite tally with their own. Faced with a tiny second-floor room with just a bidet and tub (the toilet and sink were downstairs), the four friends quickly transformed a cramped bedroom into a luxurious bath. (See the full story on Maison Beaufort at "A holiday haven in the South of France.") Now, French-influenced honey-toned paint coats the walls, while Canadian Country accents in beadboard and double sinks call to mind the best of both worlds.
An unfitted farmhouse bureau provides fitting storage for the room, while keeping the look spare and clean (pictured above). Double sinks cater to individual guests’ needs (pictured at left).
Ring, Cartier; citrine necklace, Cynthia Findlay Antiques.
